In the Hobonichi Techo app, by acquiring location information via GPS, you can automatically record the "Places Visited" of the day and automatically record your travel route on the map as "Today’s Path".
*Note: Currently, "Places Visited" is recorded when the app detects a stay of 30 minutes or more at the same location.
Timing of location acquisition
- Acquisition is suppressed while the device is stationary and resumes when movement of a certain distance is detected.
- Location information is also acquired when the app is launched, regardless of movement.
Since GPS accuracy is affected by location and app usage conditions, it is difficult to record completely correctly, but we recommend the following measures to record with as high accuracy as possible.
*If location information cannot be acquired at all, please refer to this help page.
Do not completely close the app
By not completely closing the app and keeping it open in the background, it becomes easier to acquire location information.
Launch the app as frequently as every 1-2 days
If you do not launch the app for a long period, the device may restrict background acquisition. To avoid this, we recommend opening the app as frequently as possible, such as once every 1-2 days.
Launch the app at the location you moved to
Since location information is acquired when the app is launched, opening the app when you move to a place you want to record improves recording accuracy.
*However, in places where signals from GPS satellites are difficult to reach, it may not be acquired correctly even if you open the app.
Set "Location Accuracy" to "High"
Recording accuracy is initially set to "Standard", but setting it to "High" increases the frequency of location acquisition and allows you to record Places Visited and travel routes with higher accuracy. If you wish, please change the setting with the following steps.
- Tap [Menu] at the bottom right of the app.
- Tap [Settings & Payment Information].
- Tap [Data Acquisition].
- Change [Location Accuracy] to "High".
Please note the following when setting [Location Accuracy] to "High".
-
For iPhone
When set to "High", a blue status bar will appear at the top of the iPhone while location information is being acquired. -
For Android
On Android devices, location acquisition tends to have a higher impact on battery consumption. Setting it to "High" maximizes recording accuracy, but battery consumption will be the highest.
Turn on "Precise Location" in location settings
If the use of "Precise Location" is turned off in the location permissions in the device settings, it becomes difficult to acquire location information. Please check the settings with the following steps and change it to on if it is off.
- Tap [Menu] at the bottom right of the app.
- Tap [Settings & Payment Information].
- Tap [Data Acquisition].
-
Tap the [Location] section.
-
For iPhone
In the device settings screen opened by tapping "Location", if "Precise Location" is off, change it to on. -
For Android
Tap "Hobonichi Techo" from the app list, and in the opened device settings screen, if "Use precise location" is off, change it to on.
-
For iPhone
Other situations where it is difficult to acquire location information
- In places where signals from GPS satellites are difficult to reach, such as underground, indoors, inside trains, or in tunnels, the location or time may be recorded with a deviation.
- Location information cannot be acquired in Airplane Mode.
- Location information may not be acquired in Power Saving Mode / Battery Saver Mode.
We will continue to make improvements to increase the accuracy of location information as much as possible while suppressing excessive battery consumption on the app specification side as well.
