If location information cannot be acquired and "Places Visited" on the timeline or "Today’s Path" (travel route) on the map are not displayed, several causes are considered possible. Please check if any of the following items apply.
*Since "Places Visited" and "Today’s Path" start recording after linking with location information, they are not displayed for dates prior to linking.
*Currently, "Places Visited" are recorded when the app detects a stay of 30 minutes or more at the same location.
*If the records are incorrect or there are issues with accuracy, please refer to this help page.
Location acquisition is not set to "Always Allow"
To record location information even when the Hobonichi Techo app is not open (in the background), you need to set location acquisition to "Always Allow". Please check the settings with the following steps first.
*If you reinstall the app, settings will be reset and the connection will be released.
*If the status is "Not Connected" even though you set it to "Always Allow", the device may have restricted background acquisition because the app has not been launched for a long period.
- Tap [Menu] at the bottom right of the app.
- Tap [Settings & Payment Information].
- Tap [Data Acquisition].
-
Check if the [Location] section is set to "Not Connected" or "Connected".
-
If [Not Connected]
Tap "Not Connected" and set location access to "Always" allow. (Refer to this help for detailed steps.) -
If [Connected]
Tapping "Connected" will open the device settings screen, so please check the following location settings.
(1) Is Location access set to "Always" allow?
(2) Is "Precise Location" turned on?
-
If [Not Connected]
-
Check if the [Activity App permissions] section is set to "Not Connected" or "Connected".
-
If [Not Connected]
Tap "Not Connected" and set to "Allow". *Allow "Motion & Fitness" for iPhone, or "Physical Activity" for Android. -
If [Connected]
There is no problem with this setting.
-
If [Not Connected]
<About Location Accuracy>
After setting location acquisition to "Always Allow", you can further select the recording accuracy from "High / Standard / Low". It is initially set to "Standard", but setting it to "High" increases the frequency of location acquisition and allows you to record Places Visited and travel routes with higher accuracy. Refer to this help for details.
You were in a place where GPS signals could not be received
If you were in a place where signals from GPS satellites are difficult to reach, such as underground, indoors, inside a train, or in a tunnel, the Places Visited and travel routes for that day may not be recorded.
Airplane Mode is on
If Airplane Mode is on, it becomes difficult to acquire location information. Please turn off Airplane Mode.
Power Saving Mode or Battery Saver Mode is on
Since Power Saving Mode or Battery Saver Mode functions to reduce battery consumption of the device, app operations in the background may be restricted. Therefore, it may not be possible to acquire location information when the app is not open (in the background).
You did not move from the same place all day and did not launch the app
To save battery consumption, the Hobonichi Techo app suppresses location acquisition while the smartphone device is stationary, and resumes acquisition when movement of a certain distance is detected. Alternatively, it acquires location information when the app is launched.
Therefore, if you stayed in the same place all day or left the device in the same place, and did not launch the app all day, location information for that day may not be acquired at all.
The app was completely closed
If the app is completely closed (force quit) and not open in the background, it is highly likely that location information cannot be acquired. If you wish to record location information with the Hobonichi Techo app, we recommend that you do not completely close the app as much as possible and keep it open in the background.
*For iPhone, setting [Location Accuracy] to "High" makes it easier to acquire location information even when the app is completely closed, so please try this if you don't mind (refer to this help for steps to change accuracy settings).
The app hasn't been opened for a while
If you do not launch the Hobonichi Techo app for a long period, the device may restrict background acquisition, and location information may not be acquired. To avoid this, we recommend opening the app as frequently as possible, such as once every 1-2 days.
"Places Visited" is hidden by the filter
If the records on the map (Today’s Path) are displayed but Places Visited are not displayed on the timeline at all, they may be hidden by the filter.
Tap the "Filter" icon below the map and check if "Places Visited" is hidden (grayed out). If it is grayed out, tap it to display.
